What to look for in chimney sweep software

  • Does it win you work, or just record it? Certificates and invoices organise the jobs you already have. Online booking brings in jobs while you're up a ladder — with payment sorted at booking or collected on the day.
  • Does it get you paid? Card at booking, card at the door, cash or bank transfer — and who chases the job that wasn't settled on the day: you, or the software?
  • Sweep-specific certificates — with photos attached and completed on-site, not typed up in the evening.
  • Do the books keep themselves? A paid job should become a proper sales invoice in Xero, QuickBooks or Sage without retyping — and without an extra subscription to unlock it.
  • The annual cycle — sweeps live on repeat business. Automatic annual reminders are worth more than any single feature.
  • Honest pricing for seasonal work — a fixed monthly fee costs the same in a snowed-off January as in peak season. A model where the customer covers a small booking fee costs you nothing in either.

Customers book on your own website 24/7 and pay how they like — card at booking, or cash, card at the door or bank transfer after the job, with unpaid jobs chased automatically. Each day's jobs are ordered into an optimised driving route, certificates with photos are completed on-site (offline if needed, one per flue), reminders go out by email and free SMS, and about 11 months after each sweep booked through We Sweep an automatic reminder brings the customer back. Xero, QuickBooks and Sage sync is included too — paid jobs post themselves into your books as itemised, VAT-correct invoices. There's no monthly fee and nothing per booking — your customers pay a £1.95 online booking fee, which you can subsidise — so it costs you nothing in busy months or quiet ones.
